ADULT EDUCATION - The William Stickney Pittsfield Adult Learning Center

Students Can Now Start Registering and Enrolling for ABE and ESOL Classes

2021-2022 WSPALC SCHOOL REGISTRATION (ENROLLMENT) PROCESS

The William Stickney Pittsfield Adult Learning Center (WSPALC) is currently registering (enrolling) students on a rolling basis.  However, all prospective students will be asked to book an appointment by phone or email as there will no longer be a walk-in registration (enrollment) process due to COVID-19.    WSPALC will be conducting both in-person and online registration appointments.   All staff and students will be required to wear masks when entering the facility.   Please contact Bridget Manarchik at bmanarchik@pittsfield.net or (413) 499-9530 if you are interested in enrolling as the number of available seats for ABE and ESOL classes is limited.

IN-PERSON AND REMOTE CLASSES TO BE OFFERED THIS YEAR

Due to COVID-19, the William Stickney Pittsfield Adult Learning Center (WSPALC) will be providing in-person and remote instruction during the year in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.  For the 2021-2022 Academic Year, WSPALC will use one of two earning models based on the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis.  For both models, students will be required to have a Pittsfield.Net Gmail account, use Google Classroom and other Google Apps (i.e. Docs), and Zoom for online meetings.  Below are the definitions of the three learning models that could be utilized this year:

In-Person Model (100% In-Person) – Teachers will be providing 100% of their instruction to 100% of the students at the same time within the WSPALC facility at 141 North St. Suite 4, Pittsfield, MA.  This has been the traditional model used by WSPALC since 1976 as students are expected to attend all classes in-person unless excused.

Remote Model (100% Virtual/Remote) – Teachers will be providing live virtual instruction via Zoom.  In addition, teachers will also offer asynchronous learning as all materials will be located on Google Classroom and the students have access to various web-based learning resources.   Each class will be split into two cohorts (A or B) with each group meeting live virtually every other week as each off week will involve asynchronous remote learning.  For instance, the A1-ABE 1/2 Morning class that meets on Monday/Wednesday from 8:30am-12:00pm for 3.5 hours per class (7 per week) will result in 7 hours of live virtual learning and 7 hours of asynchronous remote learning over a two-week period.  Overall, students could potentially accrue 115.5 hours of virtual class time and another 115.5 hours of asynchronous learning time.
