God’s Trombones at MMRHS December 21st: 6:00 p.m.
The W.E.B. Du Bois Educational Series Great Barrington and Monument Mountain Regional High School will host Craig Harris’ God’s Trombones on Thursday December 21, 2016 at MMRHS. In its second year, The W.E.B. Du Bois Educational Series hosted by Monument Mountain Regional High
School celebrates the extraordinary contributions of Du Bois, the civil rights leader who was born and raised in Great Barrington and graduated from Great Barrington High School. In the spirit of Du Bois, the series presents programs designed to heighten awareness of racism, modern slavery, gender and economic inequality and other injustices.

On December 21st, composer and jazz trombonist Craig S. Harris and his band will perform "God's Trombones", based on the classic collection of poems by civil rights leader James Weldon Johnson. Harris and his ensemble will be introduced by Jill Rosenberg Jones, the literary executor of the James Weldon Johnson estate. The Pittsfield High School Jazz Ensemble and students from Monument Mountain will open the program. The event will be dedicated to Don Quinn Kelley, the co-founder of "Lift Ev'ry Voice." Pittsfield educator Shirley Edgerton will pay tribute to Don's memory.

Harris’ God’s Trombones “is based on James Wendell Johnson’s classic collection of poems that refigure inspirational sermons by itinerant Negro preachers.” http://www.craigsharris.com/biography/

The program begins at 6:00 p.m. and a $10.00 donation is suggested.
