The Parent-Child Home Program

What is the Parent-Child Home Program?

PCHP is a home-based parenting, early literacy, and school readinessprogram designed to help strengthen verbal interaction and educationalplay between parents and their young children. PCHP supports andstrengthens parents’ skills in enhancing their children’s cognitivedevelopment and school readiness.

If accepted into the Parent-Child Home Program what can I expect?

The Parent-Child Home Program is now in its fortieth year with thePittsfield School Department. This free early childhood program for 2-& 3-year-old children gives a fun start to their education. We sendtrained Home Visitors to work with two- and three-year-old children andtheir parents. We provide educational books and toys and model fun waysto use them. These books and toys are provided at no cost and are theirsto keep for continued enjoyment. Children who complete two years of thehome program then go on to the Four-Year Old program at either Conte orMorningside Community School.

Who is eligible to apply to participate in the Parent-Child Home Program?

Two and three year olds….and their parents!

How do I register my child for grades 1-5?

If your child is currently enrolled in the Pittsfield Public Schools,he/she will be automatically registered for the next school year. Ifyou are new to Pittsfield, you can register your child in the followingways.

Please see the "Open Registration" link on the left to begin the process using the online registration form. You will then need to complete the process by bringing in the required paperwork to the office listed there.

What do I need to enroll?
  • child’s birth certificate
  • proof of address (utility bill with service address or rental agreement) 
  • child’s immunization records and most recent doctor’s physical exam records
  • any school records
Is there any orientation for students moving from grade 5 to grade 6?

Yes. A step-up day is provided for all students currently enrolled inthe Pittsfield Public Schools. This short orientation program iscoordinated through the elementary schools with support of the receivingmiddle school. In addition, a district “First Day” is provided for allgrade 6 students at the start of the school year. A letter mailed tohomes during the summer, or available through the school’s office,provides details regarding this orientation program.
